STAR, ZEE at loggerheads over 'Antakshari' Monday, January 01, 2007 Source: IANS Mumbai: The channel war threatens to get bigger this year with STAR hijacking ZEE TV's 'Antakshari' concept along with its mentor Gajendra Singh. However, ZEE isn't crying over spilt milk. The channel has quickly got its act together for a new antakshari show with Sa Re Ga Ma Pa contestants Sunil Pal and Himani Kapoor as hosts. But STAR, which plans to telecast the show in February, is unfazed. "Getting Singh was enough of a USP for us. We're designing our own music shows with him," said Sameer Nair, Chief Executive Officer of STAR Entertainment, India. Singh, the man behind ZEE's two flagships shows "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa" and "Antakshari", is proceeding full steam with getting the musical show in place. The pre-production work is on. The masterstroke was getting the original "Antakshari" host Anu Kapoor, who has been virtually languishing since the show was closed down. Jatin-Lalit's niece Shweta Pundit is expected to join Anu as the co-host. "We're delighted to have Anu. He has the musical knowledge, singing voice, passion and sense of televised drama that we need. As for the telecast date, our 'Antakshari' begins in the first week of February," said Nair. There seems to be no insecurity in STAR about ZEE rush-telecasting "Antakshari". "Why should there be any insecurity? All this time when I was with ZEE, there seemed to be no interest in reviving 'Antakshari' after it was closed down two years ago. Suddenly they are as keen to have the show back as we are to begin it on STAR," said Singh. The entire format and set design of STAR's "Antakshari" will be different from ZEE's. Omang Kumar has been roped in to design the set. "I'm not looking at repeating my success with 'Antakshari' at ZEE. I'm looking at carrying it forward," said Singh. It remains to be seen which channel secures a better viewership for its "Antakshari". But the music season never seemed more melodious. |

am back after donno how many days....and nice to see this post.
BTW,HAPPY NEW YEAR! Good that Gajji is not relying on Antakshri pattern what he has left back on Zee but is innovating and taking off from a different level. Only Gajji could have taken such a bold n giant step.....other one is ofcourse, Sunita Williams! Talking of reality shows, there is none to beat SRGMP and am missing it damnit! II ,FG , BB(all on Sony) or any Xyz(on Sab) show cannot fill up for SRGMP.I watch BB out of elimination process and since there is no other reality show on air, have no choice but to while away some time and laugh at the expense of these 'fallout celebs'......btw, Shilpa is going to seduce someone on Big Brother show.....looking forward to some scintilating clipping on the internet now showing Shilpa doing it..... While on SRGMP, its nice to hear that Nihira has sung for Salaam-e-Ishq and also that Himesh is going to sing the 'Mehbooba' song for RGV's Sholey, finally!!!! Donno what to look forward to in 2007 from Himmu baby!.....his blockbuster movie or some more chartbusters or both!!! -------------------- Thoda hai thode ki zaroorat hai

I watched the first episode of antakshari on zeetv for five minutes.I did not like it.The energy was not there.Himani is good but the effect of anu kapor, gajendra singh is not there.Probablly star antakshari will be better.Antakshari was never my favourate so I not be completely here. But still we will have to wait for saregamapa to start. Yes gajendra singh will be missed by zeetv. The terrible show of zee cine stars ki khoj shows what gajndra singh has done.In the first weeks the judges were good, but there are being asked to shout at the contestants and pooj bhatt and anupam kher are shouting at the contestants. I don't think that saregamapa will be better. We don't know what the format is going to be.But the mentors except HR who is loyal to zee may with gajendra singh. Shilpa shetty is being paid about L300000 to be on big brother according to one website. So that would be Rs 2 crore 67 lakhs. But I think the amount is likely to be lower. She is not worth that much. She was not paid that much for a film even when her career was high.At this age she is not seductive enough. The Indians are hypocratic. They Impose censore rules when the entire film industry is not following them. They talk about fictitious morals while their lifestyle is completely different.I think we are going to see more of hindi film actresses in these kind of shows. |

Thanks Sridhar for sharing the info...unfortunately, Antakshari hasnt started in UAE yet.
I understand on Zee it is Star studded and with Cricket World cup flavour. With all this, the basic essence n flavour of the show is bound to get diluted, it being a music linked show. The moment you try getting Star glitter into a musical show, it loses its shine! Antakshari on Zee now is like having a 'GulabJamun' not dipped in sugar syrup....oh ya!, it sure is a with a pinch of sugar Good that Himani is getting the exposure..she is bound to get noticed now....she deserved being the winner amongst the gals in C-05. BTW, where is Debojit??....the supposedly winner of C-05! HR is too busy now to be bothered about XY Zee.....and yes, Indians are the greatest hypocrites wid double standards of morality, torn between ethical culture and westernization. Have guts to stand for what you do and not say!! The Junta will castigate Rex for playing it along wid Ruprekha but will ignore/encourage promiscuity, themselves. Ohh, be brave enough to accept it. Same goes for Big Boss...they will not show it in India but will lap it up on Big Brother. -------------------- Thoda hai thode ki zaroorat hai

I guess we were all waiting eagerly for this update.....finally it is here.
A full-scale campaign If Zee TV has Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, now Star is coming up with Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa, courtesy Gajendra Singh After Antakshari, Star is coming up with a new show, Star Voice of India Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa, Sargam Ab Puri Hogi, on the lines of Zee TV's already existing Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. And no points for guessing, the show on Star will be produced by none other than Gajendra Singh (the creator of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee). Shaan will host Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa The show, to be hosted by Shaan, will be aired on Star Plus in the primetime slot and promises to be different from the one on Zee TV. According to Gajendra Singh, the format of the new show will be entirely different from his earlier show. He says, "This time, we are going to do ground events in different cities of India with local judges. We are going to select a few singers after the auditions and take them to Mumbai. These kids will then be trained by musical gurus and industry bigwigs." But, doesn't it sound similar to shows like Voice of India on Zee and Fame Gurukul on Sony? "I can't comment on other shows. But, my show will definitely bring in a new twist in the genre of Indian reality music. The show on Zee TV was also conceptualised by me. I am only taking my idea forward to another channel now," he adds. Incidentally, Antakshari on Star is not doing well compared to Zee as far as TRPs are concerned. Moreover, Zee is also coming up with its new season of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. So, how confident is Gajendra about Star Voice of India? "I can't comment on Zee's show but undoubtedly our Antakshari is doing great. Our Voice of India will be a different take on music altogether," he says. Gajendra Singh Interestingly, the new show boasts of names like Aadesh Srivastava, Jatin and Lalit, Abhijeet and Alka Yagnik as judges on the show. But if one recalls, last time, Gajendra had a huge fight with Abhijeet on the sets of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee. To this Gajendra says, "Sometimes, when we work under severe time constraints, conflicts are bound to take place. But we share a good rapport now and that's the reason he is in the show. And Shaan is the only host I could think of," says Gajendra. |

'Lil Champs' finalists join 'Titan Antakshari' for Elaane-e-jung season
Indiantelevision.com Team (12 April 2007 1:00 pm) Lil' Champs finalists Diwakar, Sameer and Sanchita MUMBAI: Zee TV is all set to bring back its musical talent hunt show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa at the end of this month, which in its last season raked in a huge volume of audiences. But before that, the channel is looking to bring the three little singing sensations to its other musical competition Titan Antakshari for a special 14 week edition titled Lil' Champs Elaane-e-jung to kick off on 13 April. Previously, the channel roped in the three female protagonists from their top serials Saloni, Bani and Divyanka to lead the teams in a special episode. This time round, Zee is looking to rejuvenate the excitement over 28 episodes with Lil Champs finalists Diwakar, Sanchita and Sameer leading the three teams Diwakar Ke Deewane, Sanchita Ke Parwane and Sameer Ke Mastane. In addition, the previous male host for the show Sunil Pal has been replaced by Karan Oberoi for the new season that will be aired every Friday and Saturday at 8:30 pm. |

Zee to sue Star!
The television channel plans to serve them a legal notice for allegedly ripping off their original musical shows Back to Section Stories Posted On Monday, April 16, 2007 Ranjib Mazumder The re-emergence of Antakshri and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa on Star, along with Gajendra Singh's controversial exit from Zee is creating unprecedented friction between the two channels, if not all-out war. This time it seems that Star has gone too far according to Zee. Reason? Well, after Antakshri, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa on Star turns out to be a replica of the show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, which has been associated with Zee for the past 12 years. Apart from Gajendra Singh's association, Star has roped in same anchor (Shaan) and judges (music director Jatin, Lalit, Aadesh Srivastava, and singers Abhijeet and Alka Yagnik) who were on Zee's show a few months back. Now, Zee is baring its teeth, claws, fangs - you name it - and is all set to drag Star and its former blue-eyed boy, Gajendra Singh to court by issuing a legal notice for copyright violations. Ashish Kaul, senior vice president of Zee Telefilms said, "We are working out all the details and planning to issue a legal notice to both Gajendra Singh's Sai Baba Telefilms and Star." He further added, "Gajendra Singh has been one of our most efficient employees and he conceptualised both Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and Antakshri, with Zee as a valid platform. We respect individual growth and have no problems with his movement to Star. Yet, we have seen that Antakshri has a lot of similarities to our programme. And now, they are coming up with a copy of our Sa Re Ga Ma Pa with the same name. To add fuel to the fire, they are roping in the same judges and the same anchor. Gajendra has worked with us for such a long time that he is now just creating duplicates of our original shows and Star is giving him all the support. So, we are planning a legal action against them." In the recent past too, Zee has served legal notices to Star on two occasions for coming up with shows that were similar with Zee shows in both content and format. With Zee's legal notice, Star Vijaya, the Tamil channel of Star India changed their programme. Recently with the Betiyaan controversy, Star also changed the title with Zee's objection. Zee TV is appalled by Star's attempt to copy them. "Of late, Star has lost significant viewership to Zee thanks to our innovative programming. But Star is showing pure frustration by aping our programmes. We regard Star as a professional channel, and we expect them to behave professionally," Kaul added. When we contacted Star for their version, they denied any similarity. "The sargam can never change and everyone is entitled to use the basics of music like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa or whatever. Antakshri is a great Indian practice and no one owns their trademark on it. We know that Gajendra was earlier with Zee but our programme is going to be distinctive in format and presentation. If Zee wants to issue us a legal notice, it just shows their insecurity," said Harsh Rastogi, General Manager of content and communication at Star. In the meanwhile, Gajendra Singh, Zee's ex-apple of the eye, and currently Star's rising star, was surprisingly blasé at the tele-scandal. "If they want to take legal action, let them do whatever they want to. Let the court decide who is right and who is wrong. I have nothing to say beyond this," said an unfazed Singh. Well, dont break into ghazals and Hindi songs at the court proceedings. The judges here are real, not hired. Best of luck. |

Stepping into Shaan's shoes;
Aditya or Babul? The Zee-Star war is officially out in the open; Shaan quit anchoring Sa Re Ga Ma Pa to join a panel of judges on Star's Voice of India Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa. The most obvious question now is; who will step into Shaan's shoes? The buzz goes that Zee has approached Babul of Kaho Na Pyaar Hai fame and Aditya Narayan of Rangeela fame. The first is a seasoned singer with a couple of albums to his credit and the other is a novice with a promising future. "We are talking to various singers, Babul, Aditya Narayan and Adarsh (a new name), we have not finalised as yet," reveals Ashish Kaul, Senior Vice President Zee Telefilms. So, with the hunt for a new anchor on, will the format change with innovative changes? "The format will essentially remain the same, but we're trying to always spice it up and the show will be innovative," says Kaul. Season two has head for a change in judges as the previous scholars of music industry have been lured by Star. The new panel will have the Rock-RnB Hip Hop -Bollywood specialists Vishal and Shekar; the eternal nasal voice of mass appeal Himesh Reshamiya, the legend of melody Ismail Darbar and the man in gold Bapphi Lahiri. Babul, who had just returned from Calcutta, confirmed, "Yes, I have been approached for the show, but we have not signed it. We've been on talks for a while now." Well, Aditya Narayan, on the other hand did not sound so decisive, "Yes I have been approached for the show; however the decision has to be taken as yet. I might do it or I might not!" Why the uncertainty? "Well, because, TV takes up a lot of time and I have still a year of studies to finish. I want to practice on my classical music as well." There's a bright side to it though; won't it work like a launch pad? "Yes, of course it will change a lot of things, it's a brilliant opportunity." However, his tone is significant that he doesn't want to be stuck with TV. So, is he pursuing acting, he laughs "Yes, I love acting but music is my first love, I am looking forward to doing both." As the real story unfolds, we're putting our bets on Aditya Narayan since he's young and charming, though Babul is a seasoned and experienced singer. Aditya would also appeal to the audience as a new face on the small screen and can definitely pool in young audiences' to watch the show. A jog down the memory lane shows a similar strategy that was followed for Sonu Nigam and Shaan in the past. Let's us hope that the new anchor Zee chooses breathes new life into the show. |

Udit Narayan's son Aditya Narayan has been roped in to host Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee TV. Aditya, who had done playback singing with dad Udit in Akele Hum Akele Tum, is currently brushing up his singing skills. Aditya has recently completed a one-and-a half years diploma course in contemporary music from London and is doing his graduation in Mumbai. The show will go on air in May and will have Himesh Reshamiya, Vishal - Shekhar, Ismail Darbar and Bappi Lahiri as presiding judges. Says Aditya, "Since I have just come back from London, I am taking it easy for the time being. Zee has approached me for the show and talks are still on. I am discussing the project with my parents. Although they are very excited, they have asked me to take the final call." Although Aditya has got a few acting offers he wants to concentrate on his singing at this stage of his career. Says Aditya, "I love singing and hosting this show will be a learning experience for me." Ashish Kaul, Senior vice President of Zee TV, says, "We have approached Aditya but we are yet to zero in on the show. Once he signs on the dotted line, we will start hunting for a female host as well." |

You have rightly assessed the situation on both the fronts for Zee....the loss of Gajji and the inaptness with which they have conducted Antakshani.
I happened to see the episode on which Debojit had come wid his wife as participants.....and this is the minimum that I want to mention about that episode Wonder how Aditya Narayan will make his presence felt on SRGMp, in comparision to what Sonu and Shaan did...obviously, he will be measured by the same yard stick and with Gajji not being there, I have my own doubts what its going to turn out like....SRGMP without Gajji and with Aditya is SRMPA...when rearranged, PRAMS for the new born child of Zee!...and we have Himesh on one side and Ismail on other to Rock the baby -------------------- Thoda hai thode ki zaroorat hai

Whoa! HR is on a roll making a lotta moolah thanks to zee tv.One can't help but wonder though what is the overall budget of the SRGMP 07' prog for Zee
HR's haters are not going to like this. After getting away with nasal singing and repetitive scores, Himesh Reshammiya is now laughing all the way to the bank. When Reshammiya joined the jury of Zee TVs Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2005 as one among the four judges (along with fellow music directors Ismail Darbar, Adesh Shrivastav and Jatin-Lalit), he was not much of a name to reckon with. Sources reveal for an appearance of four months on the show, he was first offered just Rs 20 lakh. (After the shows success, all paychecks were upgraded). Two years later, post the chartbusters and a lead film role, Reshammiya is judge again. For Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007, the talent hunt that also features musical mega stars like Bappi Lahiri, Darbar and Vishal-Shekhar, were told Reshammiya is being paid an estimated Rs 14 crore. The deal also includes stage performances at the various cities the show will travel to. Source: http://cities.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=233269 |

Gajendra plans new shows for STAR, NDTV
IANS[ WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25, 2007 09:20:00 AM] MUMBAI: If you think music show maverick Gajendra Singh is likely to be daunted by the frontal attack by his former Zee channel bosses, you're in for a surprise. Singh continues to move ahead with his second show, a talent-scouting contest for STAR One, and also a brand new hush-hush show for NDTV's new entertainment channel NDTV Imagine lead by Sameer Nair. But the hurt shows when he talks. "Zee has called me ungrateful. I gave them every ounce of my creative energy for 14 years. Why should I be considered ungrateful for moving on? Is it my fault that their attempts to sustain their music shows haven't been successful after I left? They accuse me of copying Zee shows. Music is my only passion. I would naturally take my passion with me wherever I go." Zee's declarations that the channel would do their best to stop Singh have shaken him somewhat, but left him more determined. "Is this the way to treat me just because I've moved on? I'm not scared. In fact I'm more determined than ever to build my life again. My shows will continue to be different from what I did for Zee, and I'll continue to fight their charges of duplication. I'll also continue to do my shows." "In my new talent-scouting contest, music composers Jatin Pandit and Aadesh Shrivastava will be training all the contestants before they come on air. I want the contest to be fully transparent. And I want to prove that I can grow beyond what I did at Zee. I repeat - I don't have to copy shows that I gave birth to." "Now Zee is telecasting repeats of my shows with my name deleted from the credits and replacing it with someone else's name. Someone who joined Zee in 2005, after those repeated episodes had been made.... But I don't want to fight the company that nurtured my talent. Injustice can never triumph." Gajendra has also been accused of carrying all the technicians from Zee to his news shows on STAR. "Completely untrue," protested Singh. "I left Zee all alone. And I plan to make a success of what I'm doing wherever I go." After two shows on STAR One, Gajendra is planning a musical show for NDTV Imagine. "It's going to be a musical like none other." |

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa to make a comeback with global appeal on 4 May Indiantelevision.com Team (26 April 2007 6:00 am) MUMBAI: Zee TV is set to go the whole hog with a fresh season of it's musical talent hunt show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, but this time the attempt is to take it global with the addition of talent from across US, UK, UAE, South Africa and Pakistan. Raising the bar for themselves, the show supports the tagline "Sangeet ka pratham vishwayudh" and has roped in five music mughals including Ismail Darbar, Bappi Lahiri, Himesh Reshamiya, Vishal and Shekhar. The show is slated to kick off on 4 May on Friday and Saturday at 10 pm. Following producer Gajenda Singh's exit from the Zee troupe, not only has he set up base in rival network but has also taken the core essence of the show, the host Shaan and the panel of judges Alka Yagnik, Jatin, Lalit, Aadesh Srivastava and Abhijeet to form Star's version of the same format. Prior to this, Singh also kicked off Antakshari which was earlier a prime property on Zee, taking its oringianl host Annu Kapoor with him to Star. To this Zee TV busines head Punit Goenka said, "Gajenda Singh was part of th team that developed both the formats, but we are the creators and the platform and will continue to remain as that." Shaan did have his own fan following and his absence seems to reflect an undetone of regret among Zee offcials. However, the attempt here is to bring the show back with as much gusto and therefore the Zee team has decided to support the show with an all round marketing effort. The channel has tied up with Big FM and Rediff.com for the duration of the show. The launch was infact aired live on the station, and as radio partners Big FM will host contests and interviews with the big wigs on the show. Rediff on the other hand will stream videos of the episodes and run contests, interestingly they will also support the channel in a merchandising effort for the property. Additionlly, Zee Music will air a behind the scenes episodes on the days of the show at 11 pm as it was observed that audiences enjoy being filled in on these details, says Zee TV marketing head Tarun Mehra. The host for this season is Udit Narayan's son Aditya Narayan and the will be produced by Gyan Shahai, who supposodely worked closely with Singh during his tenure at Zee. Goenka believes that a distinction in the format had to be made and therefore the introduction of International participants. The show is surely looking to attract more eyeballs globally. It will divide the contestants into groups of six, each mentored by one guru and special guests on the show that will shortlist the finalists, the first among the guests judges will be Asha Bhosle. http://www.indiantelevision.com/headlines/y2k7/apr/apr371.ph p |

It was 4th May yesterday but there was no sign of SRGMP on Zee Dubai. Looks they will never learn and deprive UAEiets from being at par with India when it comes to viewing SRGMP live....but I have no regrets, sort of...coz Zee is left only with the body whereas, the soul of SRGMP has embibed itself in Star, with Gajji , Shaan and the orchestra moving to Star channel, lock stock and barrel.
Lets see if Himesh and Ismail can put some life in the body of SRGMP on Zee. I happened to watch II3....looks like the hindi idion 'teen tigada kaam bigaada' is gonna come true. What on earth is wrong with Anu Malik...well..well, I cant blame him seeing his downward trend these days and knowing that II is still on Sony...how can we forget the staged gimmicks of Ila Arun and Javed AKhtar to rack up the TRP of the channel...yes, the TRP skyrockets but only to give us a dud jody in form of Qagzi and RR. Where is Abhijit Sawant and Sandeep Acharya...no one knows. So much for Indian Idle 3 -------------------- Thoda hai thode ki zaroorat hai
